~*~ griff ~*~ Melbourne, Australia – (dubtronica)
|| griff tunes // Dersuuzala Music ||
griff started out his musical life playing blues guitar while growing up in North East Victoria, Australia This led to some fun times in various bands until a move to the UK opened his eyes to the endless possibilities of electronic music.
Upon returning to Australia, griff launched into the world of production and spent hours hunched over an MPC2000 and various half-working grooveboxes. It wasn’t until 2007, when griff decided to study audio engineering at RMIT, that his productions and compositions came into their own. After finishing his studies, griff was employed by Melbourne institution Sing Sing Studios, where he learnt from some of the industry’s best engineers and producers while working on the projects of some amazing musicians.
From this experience, griff has developed a truly unique sound that encompasses the best elements of analogue and digital production techniques. Smooth guitar hooks, crunchy beats, deep basses and constantly evolving progressions are trademarks to his sound. These trademarks were highlighted in his debut EP “Elwood” released on Summer Rain Recordings in 2009.
griff released the “Space Folk” EP on Adapted Records in March 2012 to wide spread praise and followed this up with “So It Goes”, also on Adapted Records which was released in September 2012. As well as these two releases, he recorded and produced a full length album written with his brother, Bryn Burnell under the moniker of “Dersu Uzala”. His latest release on Adapted Records the “Elements” EP, has already garnered acclaim for it’s originality, melodic variety and high quality productions aesthetics.
Both DJing and playing live sets of original material, griff has delighted punters at parties including Eclipse 2012, Regrowth, Rainbow Serpent, Kuranda Roots, Wide Open Space, Dragonfly Dawn, Bushweek, Brown Alley, My Aeon and a stirling sunrise set at the Nexus camp at the legendary Burning Man in 2010. Playing at a WHOMP! party this year he supported Grammatik on the Melbourne leg of his Australian tour. 2013 sees griff heading to Canada to play The Ampitheatre at Shambhala music festival as well as a run of other club gigs in the US.
Apart from the music, he plays a mean game of table tennis and is currently looking for coffee company endorsement to help him create his next musical release.
